Kolbe Farm is a 40-acre neighborhood development, by InTown Homes with a design driven by studio LFA. Located in the city of Houston, Texas, Developer Frank Liu visions was inspired on the previous farm that occupied the site and his desire to revive the tradition of livable, pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods that not only foster a sense of true community, but also are able to grow and mature over time. Led by the most established and best-loved old farm towns, the design team developed a master plan for a traditional neighborhood development.
At the heart of the plan, the design recreates nature preserved that house a retention lake, surrounded by jogging trails, passive and active public spaces with a variety of amenities that would attract a diverse Fauna and Flora to the community.
Tree-lined streets, squares, and boulevards were all meticulously designed to promote a pedestrian-friendly environment while also developing an efficient thoroughfare network weaving Kolbe Farms into the surrounding urban fabric.
Interconnected parks and pathways complete an extensive greenway network emphasizing the natural beauty of a site highlighted by locating several strategic amphitheaters that open the view corridors beyond each point of the community.
A bridge has also been carefully designed as an urban element to promote a sense of place and afford views of the entire community.
The Kolbe Farm homes are inspired on the traditional farm homes around the country as well as contemporary elements. They are comprised of a mix of housing types including single-family homes, cottages, garage apartments, and live-work units. The diversity in housing types, combined with a wide range of affordability results in a neighborhood that meets the needs of an assortment of lifestyles. In this place, older residents, young professionals, and families integrate to create a vibrant and varied community that is able to evolve naturally over time.
